London: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, who were rivals 20 years ago in the testosterone-fuelled action hero movie arena, seemed thick as thieves and were seen grabbing a very macho bite to eat together in Los Angeles. The duo, who is co-starring in two films this year, have a lot in common as well as 10 children, four wives, and several film franchises between them.
“We’re just a couple of old war horses talking about the oddest subjects on the planet,” the Daily Mail quoted Stallone as telling Entertainment Tonight last month. “I think in the beginning we were competitive – there’s no question about it. A little alpha territorial. And then we realized it was good for our careers [to work together],” he said. The 64-year-old former Governor of California said they spent several years trying to find a project to work on together before collaborating on the first two ‘Expendables’ films and next year’s prison thriller ‘The Tomb’. “We have talked about it for three decades and it never happened. I think we tried maybe too hard,” Arnold said. “But now after the governorship, somehow this just fell into place,” he said. After ditching his slightly dodgy grey beard, the Austrian-born former body-builder looked in great spirits as he laughed with a few other men. Schwarzenegger, who’s working on the release of his autobiography ‘Total Recall’, looked fit in his Army green t-shirt, loose-fitting faded blue jeans, and white sneakers. Meanwhile the ‘Rocky’ star flexed his bulging biceps in a light-blue polo shirt, dark denim jeans, and wingtip-style soccer cleats. Bothe the actor will be making rare appearances at next month’s San Diego Comic-Con, sitting on the panel for Lionsgate’s ‘The Expendables 2’, which comes out August 17.
