New Delhi: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday decided to take a series of steps to check the price rise and the biting inflation which is troubling the common man and the entire country.
The steps were disclosed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley after a high-level meeting in which Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Food Minister Ramvilas Paswan, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and top officials including Nripendra Misra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were present.
After the meeting, while addressing the media, the Finance Minister said, "22 commodities are being actively monitored by the government and states are being advised to crack down on hoarders."
He said that the government won't allow anyone to exploit the situation. He discussed rise in price of various commodities.
He also said that fruits and vegetables will be delisted from the APMC in Delhi and only certain items will be traded via APMCs.
To control the rise in price of essential commodities, the government has imposed restrictions on import of onion. The export price of potato will also be fixed by trade ministry.
After the meeting, Jaitley added that only 4-5 commodities are witnessing price rise and the Delhi government is advised to control onion prices and asked to purchase it and offload in the market.
To ease the situation 50 lakh tonnes of rice will be offloaded in the market.
