New Delhi: Amid multiple woes hurting power generation, the government on Friday said it would soon come out with a 10-year action plan to strengthen the sector.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises is finalising the 'Road Map for Power generation, transmission and distribution 2022'.
The action plan is expected to be finalised next month after taking views from all the concerned parties, ministries and departments, Department of Heavy Industry Joint Secretary Ambuj Sharma said here.
About 50 percent of the stakeholders have already sent their responses to the plan, he said at a conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
"There will be specific steps for time bound completion of projects in generation and T&D sector... (There would also be) focus on skill development in various segments of the power sector," Sharma noted.
The domestic power sector is grappling with a slew of problems including acute fuel shortages and poor financial health of distribution companies (discoms).
In the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17), the country is expected to see a capacity addition of about 88,000 MW.
Planning Commission Advisor (Energy) I A Khan said that about 10 locations have been identified for smart grid projects and a pilot project is being implemented in Puducherry.
