New Delhi: To sensitise those living in villages about welfare programmes meant for them, the government is planning to launch a television quiz programme on rural India on the lines of the popular TV game show `Kaun Banega Crorepati` (KBC).
"We are thinking about it (launching a game show on rural India on the lines of KBC). This can be a good option to spread awareness among the rural masses," Union MInister for Rural Development C P Joshi told PTI here. The programme, the title of which has been proposed to be `Sawal Ek Karor Ka` (question for Rs one crore), will be anchored by some celebrity, an official said adding, it can be aired on some private entertainment channel though the name of Doordarshan has also been suggested. The winner of the quiz show will get a cash prize of Rs one crore. "However, he will be entitled to a part of this cash prize and the rest of the money will go to the panchayat he belongs to. This money will be used in the development of panchayat," the Minister said. "We are discussing it. The modalities are yet to be finalised," he said. Joshi noted that electronic media is now "more effective" in disseminating information and creating awareness among people. A game show on rural India on the lines of KBC will not only inspire people to participate in rural development but also "greatly" help elected representatives of panchayats and villagers understand the policy and programmes of the government and their role, he added. "We have 2.50 lakh panchayats across the country with about 36 lakh to 40 lakh elected representatives. There was a time when print media used to be relevant to create awareness (about various schemes). But now, electronic media is more effective," he said. PTI
