Washington: Legendary singer Tony Bennett has revealed that his latest duet partner Amy Winehouse knew that she was near death when they recorded the classic standard ‘Body and Soul’ in London earlier this year.
The ‘Rags to riches’ singer admitted that although he was thrilled to record the duet with Amy for his hit new album ‘Duets II’, the collaboration had ominous undertones. The 85-year-old revealed that he didn’t know that his young friend was in trouble at that time, but after recalling the conversations he had with Winehouse and reviewing film footage of their time together, he eventually realized it. “She knew that she was in a lot of trouble, that she wasn’t gonna live. It wasn’t drugs, it was alcohol ‘til the end,” Contactmusic quoted him as telling on ‘The Daily Show’. “She was the only singer that really sang what I call the right way,” he added. ANI
