Former Pak greats ring `warning bell` for Pak after flop show in Asia Cup

Karachi: Captain Shahid Afridi may be satisfied with his team`s performance in the ongoing Asia Cup, but former Pakistani cricket greats are not at all impressed, as they see the loss against India and Sri Lanka as a `warning bell` for problems that are needed to be fixed urgently before the next year`s World Cup in the sub-continent.

Former skipper Zaheer Abbas lashed out at Afridi`s men for losing the game against India after coming so close victory. "Pakistan did play well in both the matches but the fact is that we are still number three, behind Sri Lanka and India, which is a warning bell for next year`s World Cup. Against India our batting did well, but bowling and fielding were not up to the mark," Abbas said.He pointed out that the Pakistani squad has `too many` coaches, which defies logic. "Too many coaches are spoiling the broth," The News quoted Abbas, as saying. The Pakistan team has three coaches in like of Waqar Younis, who is the head coach, assistant coach Aqib Javed and batting-fielding coach Ijaz Ahmed.Former chief selector Iqbal Qasim, who resigned following Pakistan`s disastrous tour of Australia earlier this year, said fielding remains one of main areas of concern for Pakistan. "Fielding is our main problem, which again failed us on Saturday. We also need to know when to utilise our batting powerplay, which is being spoiled every time," Qasim said. Bureau Report
