London: Music legend Cher fell victim to an Internet death hoax after a hashtag, intended to be about Britain`s former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, was misread by her fans.

The social networking site was sent into a frenzy with news that the pop singer had passed after people began posting about late Thatcher under the hashtag #nowthatcherisdead, the New York Daily News reported. Many misread the hashtag as "Now That Cher Is Dead." Britain`s former Prime Minister Thatcher died at 87. ANI
