LPG cylinders get costlier in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand government has decided to withdraw the five percent VAT waiver on LPG, making it costlier by Rs 21 to Rs 49 in the state.

Dehradun: Uttarakhand government has decided to withdraw the five percent VAT waiver on LPG, making it costlier by Rs 21 to Rs 49 in the state.

Principal Secretary (finance) Radha Raturi today said the state government has decided to withdraw the five percent VAT waiver being given on LPG for the last few years.

The new decision deals a fresh blow to people already suffering due to the the hike in LPG prices and cap on subsidised LPG.

A subsidised LPG cylinder, so far available for Rs 410, will now cost consumers Rs 431 while a non-subsidised LPG cylinder would now cost them Rs 994.50 instead of Rs 946.

The withdrawal of five percent VAT waiver on LPG will earn Rs 20 crore per annum to the state exchequer, Raturi said.

LPG distributors across Uttarakhand have implemented the decision with immediate effect, she said.
