Bill Clinton folk opera debuts in New York

Washington: A folk opera depicting a day in the life of teenage Bill Clinton has hit the stage of New York.

The opera entitled ‘Billy Blythe’, which took the name from Clinton’s father Bill Blythe, has been a joint effort of Bonnie Montgomery and her friend Britt Barber. The show has followed a day in Clinton’s life during the summer of 1959 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, with the teenager living with his mother, the late Virginia Clinton Kelley, and his abusive stepfather Roger. The Metropolis Opera Project at the Medicine Show Theatre has taken the onus of performing it. “It was very clear that it was an astonishingly beautiful piece,” the BBC quoted Zach James, director of Metropolis, as saying.
