Mumbai: Union Water Resources Minister Salman Khurshid Thursday said there was a need to provide better infrastructure and a separate stock exchange to boost small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
"There is a transition from a rural agriculture economy to a much more modern and liberal economy. However, even today the SME sector is facing the challenge of income disparity. To do away with this and to encourage the sector, there is a need to provide much better infrastructure," he said at the Global Economic Summit here.
He called for developing a strong supply-chain for processing agriculture produce. "An exchange for SMEs should also be developed so that the enterprises can raise funds through equity," he said.
