Censor Board refuses to clear Prakash Jha’s ‘Raajneeti’

Mumbai: Prakash Jha might have explained umpteen times that his latest release, ‘Raajneeti’, is not inspired by any prominent Indian political figure or family, yet, it seems that the Censor Board does not agree with the director. Touted as a mega political drama, Ranbir-Katrina starrer ‘Raajneeti’ has run into fresh trouble, with the Censor Board refusing to grant it a certificate, thereby referring it to the Revising Committee. Rumour has it that the Censor Board is not amused by the hardliner stance of the film in certain segments, in which there is wafer thin difference between real politicians and reel actors. Hugely inspired by Indian politics, the Board decided to take a second opinion before issuing a certificate, fearing the release of the film could lead to a major controversy. Talking to a news daily, a source said, “The Censor Board seemed divided. While some officials felt that they could go ahead with the certification, others cautioned against any hasty decision.” When asked, Prakash Jha was a bit cautious while commenting on the reservations of the Censor Board as he said, “It is just that the screening could not be completed because of some reason. Yes, the Revising Committee will now take a decision on ‘Raajneeti.’ The Censor Board felt that they need to show the film to more officials before taking a decision.” “Frankly, I didn’t expect this. But it’s okay. I don’t think that the Revising Committee will necessarily find a problem with the film,” Jha finally said.
