New Delhi: Railway Board Chairman Arunendra Kumar on Sunday said the railway fare might be slashed if the diesel prices are decreased.
This statement comes after the Narendra Modi government hiked rail passenger fare by 14.2 percent and freight rates by 6.5 percent on Friday, to garner Rs 8000 crore a year. The railway ministry said the hike will be implemented from June 25.
Meanwhile, decision of the government to increase rail fares and freight charges has led to protests in several parts of the country. Congress workers protested in the national capital on Saturday.
