New Delhi: Indian Railways is undergoing transformation in operations with a focus on efficiency and better customer care.

In line with its mission to transform its services, Indian Railways is planning to bring customer loyalty programme for frequent train travellers. Though details of the plan are unclear yet, reports attributing to senior Railways official, have confirmed the idea of charting of a customer loyalty programme for frequent travellers.

The rail carrier has suffered immensely due to stagnant freight and passenger fares in the past.

Manoj Sinha, Minister of State for Railways told the Lok Sabha in April earlier that total losses in the passenger segment alone stood at Rs 33,490.95 crore in the financial year 2015.

While raising passenger and freight rate becomes the obvious option for the Railways to garner revenue, the lowering air fares poses a challenge to the PSU carrrier, which is expected to become formidable in the days to come.

Customer loyalty programme would offer incentive to passengers and may encourage travellers to choose the rail carrier over air carriers.
