WEF meeting on India begins in on Nov 6
New Delhi: Corporate honchos, policy-makers along with civil society members will participate in a three-day summit on India organised by World Economic Forum (WEF) at Gurgaon from November 6.

The summit, also to be attended by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, will discuss the state of affairs of the economy.

"Increasing predictability and complexity in global markets as well as in India, signal the urgency for moving from deliberation to dialogue and decision-making," the WEF Asia Head and Senior Director Sushant Palakurthi Rao said here today.

"It is important that we should bring all the leaders together (like members from civil society and politicians) and not just economic leaders to address the most critical economic and social challenges," he said.

The theme for this year's event, to be held between Nov 6-8 is titled ?From Deliberation to Transformation?.

About 600 participants including big corporate leaders Sunil Bharti Mittal, Rahul Bajaj, Tulsi Tanti, Adi Godrej and Kris Gopalakrishnan are expected to participate. However, last year, over 700 participants were registered at the event held in Mumbai.

Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shivappa Shettar are scheduled to deliberate on various political and economic issues.

Besides, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Department of Economic Affairs secretary Arvind Mayaram would also take part of the event.

The focus of the summit would be mainly on issues related to governance, corruption, economic growth and building investors' confidence, Rao said.

"Besides, we would discuss food security issues as we are embarking on some significant projects in India in this area," he added.

Asked about the reason to chose Gurgaon as the venue this year, Rao said, Haryana is ideal as it is close to the Centre and is an industrial hub.

Rao said well-known Pakistan's Federal Minister of Parliament and Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Farzana Raja ,and former cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan are expected to participate along with political and business leaders from across the world.
