London: Pop superstar Lady Gaga has revealed that she broke into tears after a gay soldier approached her and gave her his service jacket to thank her for fighting against America’s controversial “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.
The singer said the young gay serviceman approached her as she was signing copies of her latest record at a Best Buy store in Manhattan in May. The ‘Poker Face’ singer is a vocal activist for equality and she has been campaigning against the treatment of gay American troops, who are urged to keep their sexuality a secret. “He was afraid that he would be discharged and that he would be judged or found out,” the Daily Express quoted the singer as telling The Advocate magazine. “He said that the fight in America against ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ and the fight for equality made him feel stronger and made him feel safe, and he gave me his service jacket. “And we just held each other and cried. That was such a pure and wonderful moment that we shared, and I remember thinking, ‘There’s no album sale, no number one, that could compete with this moment’. “That is what the f**k it’s all about. What the f**k it’s all about is if I can write one song that could change one person’s life,” she added. ANI
