London: In an attempt to win back ex-wife Katie Holmes, actor Tom Cruise is reportedly planning to cut down all links with Scientology that has been said to be the main reason behind their split.
The religion has cost Cruise two marriages and a source said: "He had lost Nicole (Kidman) and now his wife (Katie Holmes) and daughter (Suri). He has always used the Scientology techniques, but he has now realised they don`t work in marriage."
It was said that Holmes, 33, feared that their six-year-old daughter Suri would become too involved in the religion and this made her decide to take the divorce from him early this year, reports a website.
"Now he`s lost the most precious thing in his life, he sees that his Scientology beliefs may not have hurt his box office, but have ended not one but two marriages," said the source.
"It was a terrifying and rude awakening for Tom when Katie served him with divorce papers. He`s used to feeling undefeatable and untouchable. When he lost Katie, he felt a failure," the source added.
Cruise became a Scientologist in 1990 when he was married to his first wife, Mimi Rogers, 56. The end of his second marriage to actress Nicole Kidman, 45, was also blamed on the religion.
"Tom is no longer volunteering to be the public poster boy for Scientology. You`ll see he is seriously calming that down, he will head up the annual fundraisers and awards show but that`s in-house. In the outside world, Tom will not be promoting the religion, he is distancing himself," the source added.
