Seychelles vows to protect British royal couple

London: The police chief of the island nation of Seychelles in the Indian Ocean has vowed to do everything possible to protect Prince William and Catherine during their honeymoon.

The duke and duchess of Cambridge are reportedly staying at a 4,000-pounds-a-night luxury villa on a private isle among the 115 islands that make up the archipelago, the Daily Express reported. Seychelles police commissioner Ernest Quatre has deployed a team of special officers to support Scotland Yard officers protecting the royal couple during their 10-day stay. Quatre said detailed security plans were drawn up during secret negotiations with British officials in the capital Victoria. "We are used to handling visits by high-profile guests. People should rest assured that the appropriate measures are in place, and the couple will be protected," he said. William and Catherine reportedly arrived by a private jet Tuesday before being transferred by helicopter to their location. A team of Scotland Yard officers earlier inspected their secluded villa. "We can`t go into specific details of the operation for obvious reasons, but this is something that we have been preparing for some time," Quatre said. The arrangements for the honeymoon were made well in advance during government-to-government talks. "We obviously know that security, and in particular privacy, are important to the couple and we will do all that we can to ensure they are safe and happy." IANS
