Dr Ramanaidu honoured with Phalke Award

Known for his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema, the legendary film producer from Andhra Pradesh, Dr D Ramanaidu has been honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2009.

Mumbai: Known for his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema, the legendary film producer from Andhra Pradesh, Dr D Ramanaidu has been honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2009. The award, which is conferred by the Government of India on the basis of recommendations from a committee of renowned personalities, consists of a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs and a shawl. The award will be given at the National Films Awards Function scheduled to be held in October this year, according to reports. Born in Karamchedu in Prakasam District of AP in 1936, Dr Ramanaidu entered the film world in 1963 with his first film ‘Anuragam’, followed by the super hit film ‘Ramudu-Bheemudu’ starring NTR in 1964. The eminent personality is known to have produced over 110 films in several languages, including Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
