AR Rahman on Golden Globe nomination: It`s a relief

Los Angeles: AR Rahman is now a contender for his second Golden Globe after double wins at the Oscars and Grammys and the Indian music maestro says that the nomination comes as "relief" after a very "stressful" year.

The `Mozart of Madras` who has been around the world with his `Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home World Tour` over the past seven months, was nominated in the `Original Score` category for his work in the Danny Boyle film `127 Hours`. And the nomination helped him relax amid both professional commitments and personal worries. "It`s been a very stressful year with touring and personal problems like my daughter having surgery and then doing the score. It`s definitely a relief to get this nomination. I will enjoy it today," Rahman told Variety magazine. The 44-year-old had won his maiden Globe in 2009 for his score in Danny Boyle`s potboiler `Slumdog Millionaire`, which also won him two Oscar trophies and two golden gramophones. Rahman`s music in the `127 Hours`, starring James Franco as real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston, who cut off his arm to escape from beneath a boulder, had received good reviews for it`s "haunting tracks" and "wonderful crescendos." The soundtrack includes `If I Rise`, a collaboration between Rahman and American popstar Dido. Rahman`s song `Na Na` from his Hollywood debut `Couple`s Retreat`, was longlisted in the `Best Original Song` category at the 2010 Oscars but failed to win a nomination. The Golden Globes are considered a bellwether for the Academy Awards and the nomination can be succeeded by an Oscar nod for the the musician this time around. The 68th Golden Globe Awards will be handed out to the winners in a gala ceremony at the Beverly Hilton on January 16. PTI
