New Delhi: Kangna Ranaut has made a name for herself playing edgy characters, but the actress has decided it`s time to lighten up a bit, thanks to some prodding from her fans.
The actress says that she has been flooded with messages from fans who want to see her in comedy films and now she has been paired opposite funnyman Riteish Deshmukh in the sequel to the 2007 comedy `Dhamaal`.
"Yes, I have signed the film. It seems good fun to be working in a laughter entertainment like `Dhamaal`. Being a part of a comic outing like this should be quite interesting. I am paired opposite Riteish in `Dhamaal 2`. We begin shooting this September," Kangana told reporters.
The 24-year-old has played many characters with shades of grey since the beginning of her career. Whether it is Simran of `Gangster`, Sana Azim of `Woh Lamhe`, Neha of `Life In A Metro`, Shonali of `Fashion`, or Gina Grover of her latest `Kites`, none of them have been a girl-next-door.
But Kangana will be seen in a funny avatar in her next few releases, including `Tanu Weds Manu` and `No Problem`. "Of course I would love to do all kind of cinema. However, I also have to play those characters that people want. Off late, I have been getting a lot of fan mails and I could gauge from there that they wanted to see me in comic roles. This is why my newer crop of films has a strong comic element to them," said the actress.
The original `Dhamaal`, which starred Sanjay Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey, Ashish Chaudhary raked in the moolah at the box office despite it`s all-male cast.
The team reunites for the sequel along with two female leads, one of them being Kangana. As per reports, Vidya Balan is also a part of the `Dhamaal` sequel and would be paired opposite Sanjay Dutt. However, an official confirmation is yet to come in.
Kangana has already completed shooting for `Tanu Weds Manu`, a light hearted entertainer with Madhavan and Jimmy Shergill. Her biggie `No Problem`, a laugh riot directed by Anees Bazmee, is all set for a 3rd December release.
Kangana will have back-to-back releases this year, but the actress says that she does not have the liberty to decide the release of her films.
"Actually I don`t mind that at all. The long break that in between was not supposed to happen. Everything happened due to recession followed by multiplex v/s producers stand off strike that made everything go haywire. The situation I am in today is something that is happening to many other people in the industry," said Kangana.
Kangana`s latest film `Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai`, a period drama set in the Mumbai of 70`s, releases on 30th July.
