Legendary film director Sidney Lumet dies at 86

Sidney Lumet, the award-winning American director of acclaimed films such as `Network`, `Serpico,` and `12 Angry Men`, has passed away. He was 86.

His stepdaughter Leslie Gimbel said Lumet died of lymphoma at his home in Manhattan, reports the Telegraph. Lumet, born in Philadelphia, was married four times - to actress Rita Gam, socialite Gloria Vanderbilt, Gail Jones and Mary Gimbel, who survives him. He was one of the leading film directors of the second half of the 20th century. He was prolific, directing more than 40 movies, and versatile, dabbling in many different film genres. Lumet was nominated for Academy Awards four times as a director. He never won, but received an honorary lifetime achievement Oscar in 2005. ANI
