Pratapgarh: A local court has postponed the hearing of a case against Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt for making alleged derogatory remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, to January 22.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Manjula Sarkar gave Dutt the extended period to appear in court after his counsel, J.N Singh said that the actor could not make it due to the fog and requested for adjourning the case today, prosecution sources said. Sarkar said that if the star failed to appear on the next date, a warrant would be issued against him, sources said. During an election rally for the Lok Sabha polls last year, Dutt, then the general secretary of Samajwadi Party, had allegedly made derogatory remarks against Mayawati. He had offered to give the Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief, a jadoo ki jhappi (a magical hug) and a pappi (kiss) on two different occasions. After the 2009 incident, the then district magistrate had lodged an FIR against Dutt and a chargesheet was filed by police after investigation. PTI
