Meghalaya culture comes to Delhi

The capital savoured a slice of the culture and tradition of the northeast.

New Delhi: The capital savoured a slice of the culture and tradition of the northeast at the `Home of the Clouds` festival organised by the Meghalaya government at Dilli Haat in Pitampura area of north Delhi Saturday.
The two-day festival, organised by Meghalaya`s department of arts and culture, was inaugurated by the state`s Deputy Chief Minister B.M. Lanong. The festival will showcase the culture and cuisine of the beautiful northeastern state, apart from an exhibition-cum-sale of indigenous items like bamboo knick-knacks, handicrafts and other products. "It`s amazing to see my culture here in Delhi. Shillong is also known for beauty and nature," said Manhakini Slong, a student of Delhi University who hails from Shillong. "I am looking forward to more such events that highlight the authentic tradition and cuisine," added Slong. What is expected to be a crowd puller is the cultural evening for Feb 26 featuring traditional dances and a live performance by the Pynter Orchestra, Hedingson Rynthathiang Elvis of Meghalaya, Lou Majaw and other rock bands.
