New Delhi: The rupee strengthened further by 30 paise to 61.43 against the dollar in early trade Friday on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market as the US currency weakened globally following the budget impasse in Washington and fears of the Fed tapering its stimulus programme receded.
Against a basket of major currencies, the greenback was near an eight-month trough.
Dollar sales by exporters and firm local equities also supported the local currency.
The rupee had appreciated by 73 paise to close at an almost seven-week high of 61.73 against the dollar in the previous session as the US currency weakened globally.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex rose by 60.89 points, or 0.31 per cent, to 19,962.96 in early trade today.
