London: Naomi Campbell was apparently ‘excited’ to meet Charles Taylor, former Liberian leader, and had promised to visit his country.
Taylor, who is currently on trial for war crimes, was delighted by the supermodel’s company at a dinner hosted by Nelson Mandela, and even took a picture with her. "My delegation and I were tendered to a most delightful dinner,” The Telegraph quoted Taylor as telling senate members after returning to Liberia following the trip to South Africa in September 1997. Campbell, on the other hand, denied knowing the leader at all. "I had never heard of him before, never heard of Liberia before, never heard of the term blood diamonds before," she said. Andy Capper, editor of Vice magazine, shot a film about Liberia last year during which he was given access to the house. "In the trial, Naomi said she barely spoke to Charles during the course of the dinner, but in this photo at least they look extremely friendly," said Capper. ANI
