Washington: Pop superstar Shakira will be honoured with a special Latin Grammy award for her contribution to music and tireless charity work.
The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker has been named the Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year.
The award will be presented during a special gala on 9 November, a day before the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas.
The trophy has previously been awarded to Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias and Ricky Martin.
“It is truly an honour to be in the company of some of the greatest artists and legends of Latin Music,” Contactmusic quoted the singer as saying.
Latin Recording Academy President Gabriel Abaroa, Jr. stated, “We are honoured to pay homage to this dynamic, socially conscious woman whose illustrious career has touched so many people around the world, both musically and personally.”
Shakira is also nominated for three awards at the ceremony, including album of the year for ‘Sale el Sol’.
