Denzel Washington withdraws from `Unstoppable`

The Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington has decided to withdraw from `Unstoppable` after the 20th Century bosses suggested a cut in his paycheck.

Los Angeles, July 15: The Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington has decided to withdraw from `Unstoppable` after the 20th Century bosses suggested a cut in his paycheck. The actor, who was looking forward to begin shooting on the film from this fall, decided to withdraw from the project after waiting for three months. Washington is planning to sign on new projects to keep himself busy during the time, Variety reported.
However, Fox is hoping to get back to the actor with a more interesting offer to make him re-consider his decision. Washington was planning to team up again with his "The Taking of Pelham 123" director Tony Scott for the movie, which revolves around a veteran engineer, who jumps into a locomotive with a young conductor to stop an unmanned runaway train filled with a toxic chemical cargo. The production house reportedly wants to cut the budget of the film from USD 100 million to USD 90 million. It has already asked the director to drop his fee from USD 9 million to USD 6 million, and wanted Washington to shave USD 4 million from his USD 20 million paycheck. Not ready to take a cut, Washington decided to bow out of the project. The studio reportedly decided to cut down on the budget of the film after Scott-Washington-John Travolta subway drama "Pelham" did not do too well at the box office. The film registered a gross of only USD 60 million. Bureau Report
