London: Confirming a widely held opinion that women are shopaholics, a new study has found that on an average, a woman spends eight years of her life shopping with a major part of it spent buying beauty products.Of over 300 individual shopping trips that a woman make each year, one-third or around 100 hours and 48 minutes are dedicated for buying fashion and beauty items, as per the
study.
The survey of 2,000 British women by a market research company also disclosed that they window-shop at least 51 times a year, the Daily Mail reported.
Combined with chores like buying household essentials, food items and clothes mean that a typical British woman shops for over 25,184 hours in her adult lifetime of 63 years, the
study said.
"Many men seem to think women only shop when they are buying clothes for themselves. But they quite often shop for the entire family and that can be incredibly hard work," commented a spokesman for the company.
The report said that a women spends 40 hours and 30 minutes shopping for shoes, and 29 hours and 31 minutes on other accessories such as handbags, jewelery and scarves.
It further adds that they shop for clothes 30 times, shoes 15 times, accessories 18 times and toiletries 27 times a year.
Buying other items like deodorant and shower gel takes rather less time -- approximately 17 hours and 33 minutes over the course of a year.
The survey included other essential shopping, such as supermarket trips, of which there are an average of 84 each year, each lasting over an hour.
A further 19 shopping trips -- 36 hours and 17 minutes -- are made to purchase gifts for friends and family, the survey said.
