Washington, April 29: Hollywood actress Natalie Portman has launched an Internet community for her fans, which would give them behind-the-scenes glimpse at what it takes to make a movie. The ‘Leon’ actress has launched the website MakingOf.com with co-founder Christine Aylward, which would give behind the scenes access to intrigued fans.
Portman has recruited multifarious celebrities including directors Marc Foster and Michel Gondry, and actor Jason Bateman, to share their filmmaking experiences with the attracted fans.
Portman’s website unveiled during a press conference at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival also tells more about the work of casting directors, make-up artists, and cinematographers.
"Christine and I have been friends for a few years now and we were just talking one night and I was like, `I wonder why there isn`t a website that sort of encapsulates the experience of visiting a friend on a film set`. Every time a friend of mine came to visit (on set) I was sort of reminded of how exciting a place it is to work and I was reminded how little we all know when you`re just a moviegoer about all the different aspects that go into making a film,” Contactmusic quoted Portman, as saying.
"So the site is supposed to encapsulate that experience and give it to people who don`t have a friend they can visit on a film set so they can say, `How do they do that? What are those jobs that exist that people don`t even know about on film sets? (It`s also an) experience for the serious, burgeoning filmmaker - there`s this whole generation now of people who are making their own movies with YouTube and similar sites and I`m sure they want expert advice and the opportunity to see how it looks up close. That`s the goal - to extend that access to everyone,” Portman added.
