New York: After Ashley Judd had revealed that she was sexually abused as a child, her mother, American country singer Naomi, and sister Wynonna have also come forward to say the same.
Appearing on `The View,` Naomi recounted the therapy session where she revealed her first memory is of being sexually abused as a young child. "I never told a single soul until about two years ago," the New York Daily News quoted her as saying on the show. "This is such a personal thing, but I think we`re willing to step out on faith and hope that it helps someone else to tell someone because there is a lot of shame and secrecy, and it shows that everyone in our family that this is affecting us [and] to watch out for the next generation," she said. When Wynonna was asked if she was sexually abused, too, the singer answered in the affirmative. She further added that she understands people are surprised that she and her family are putting their "crap out there," but she explained she`s "sick and tired of the problem" of sexual abuse. "I want to be part of the solution," she said. There`s "the shame and the guilt of people thinking they had something to do with it or earned it in some way" that keeps victims from speaking up, Wynonna said. "The veil has been lifted. There are no more secrets. We can now live in truth and we don`t have to worry about someone going on VH1 [‘Behind the Music`] and telling our story for us," she added. ANI
