Jeff Bezos world's third-richest, surpasses Warren Buffett: Forbes

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has dislodged Warren Buffett as the third-richest person globally with an estimated worth of USD 65.3 billion at Thursday's market close, says Forbes real-time wealth tracker.

New York: Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has dislodged Warren Buffett as the third-richest person globally with an estimated worth of USD 65.3 billion at Thursday's market close, says Forbes real-time wealth tracker.

Buffett's worth has been pegged at USD 64.9 billion.

"Bezos has seen his fortune swell on Amazon's success and the 52-year-old has surpassed Warren Buffett as the third-richest person on the planet," Forbes said.

Amazon has reported robust second-quarter earnings, with the company posting a profit of USD 857 million, significantly up from USD 92 million a year ago.

"Revenue also jumped 31 percent to USD 30.4 billion, topping analyst estimates of USD 29.5 billion," Forbes said.

Expectedly, the stock has climbed, notching up 11 percent gains this year and 41 percent over the last 12 months.

Bill Gates remains the richest in the world with a net worth of USD 75 billion. Zara's Amancio Ortega is the second-richest in the world with a net worth of USD 67 billion.

Making clear its intention, Amazon recently announced plans to invest an additional USD 3 billion in its India operations.
