Indraneil Sengupta to star in ‘Doshomi’

Kolkata: The climax of ‘Kahaani’ unfolded on a Doshomi (Durga idol immersion) day ending in the death of Milind Dhamji played by Indraneil Sengupta, but the actor`s tryst with Doshomi has not ended with that.

Sengupta, 37, is reinventing himself in Bengali film ‘Doshomi’ which revolves around five days of Durga Puja festivity and the equation between a boy, who owns a cyber cafe, and a girl, who is his childhood friend having returned from the US to soak in the autumn festival. Flooded with congratulatory messages for his portrayal of Arnob Bagchi and Milind Dhamji in ‘Kahaani’, Indraneil said," I am happy with the massive audience response." "For me `Doshomi`, named after the last day of the Durga Puja, is more than a film; it makes me feel connected to the festivities in Kolkata, that too in traditional north Kolkata," added the actor, who has not got the opportunity yet to be the part of the festival in Kolkata. He shares the scrren space with Koel Mallick, daughter of prominent actor Ranjit Mallick. The film ‘Doshomi’, produced by Cine9, is basically a fun-filled entertainer based on youth, romance and celebrations of life. Asked how he felt to be paired opposite Koel, Indraneil said, "She is a leading actress in Bengal and this is my first work with Koel. She is a sweet girl and a good friend to work with and we are bonding well." Koel, who had acted in "Debipaksha" nine years back, said it was her second film solely revolving around five-day Durga Puja festivity. "But the two are entirely different. `Debipaksha` (by Raja Sen) had violence in its foregrond and the puja days served as the reference point, while `Doshomi` is more of a fun film," she said. Koel is also appearing in director Srijit Mukherjee`s keenly-awaited "Hemlock Society", his third after superhit and critically-acclaimed ‘Autograph’ and ‘Baishe Srabon’. The director of ‘Doshomi’, Suman Maitra, who had earlier assisted film-makers like Vishal Bardwaj in ‘Makdee’ and ‘Maqbool’, said, "This is the first time that Indraneil and Koel have been pitted against each other and the film is basically filled with fun and frolic where Avi (played by Indraneil) is a "bindaas society boy".
