Shiney Ahuja in deep trouble, police dig out past misdemeanours

Known for keeping a low profile Shiney Ahuja, who is in police remand on charges of raping his teenaged housemaid, seems to have given Bollywood its sleaziest scandal till date. But for all those who are in shock and disbelief over Shiney’s present episode, reports now suggest that this isn’t the first time the actor has been accused of such charges. The actor’s personal life is now the centre of much debate.

Mumbai, June 17: Known for keeping a low profile Shiney Ahuja, who is in police remand on charges of raping his teenaged housemaid, seems to have given Bollywood its sleaziest scandal till date. But for all those who are in shock and disbelief over Shiney’s present episode, reports now suggest that this isn’t the first time the actor has been accused of such charges. The actor’s whose personal life was never of much interest to Bollywood is now at the centre of much debate. But filmdom should be the least of the actor’s worries as Mumbai police seems to be digging deep in order to bring out skeletons from his past. Accused of raping and threatening his maid, Shiney is facing charges so appalling that Mumbai Police as well as Bollywood is now analyzing the actor’s past to look for such misdemeanours. And what’s bound to surprise or may be not, is that the actor was previously too accused of sexual harassment. Speaking to media joint commissioner (Law and Order) KL Prasad said, “We have come to know that there is an earlier non-cognizable complaint of sexual harassment against the actor in 2006 and I have asked for the record”. And if these revelations were not enough to rouse suspicion; the actor’s behaviour when the police team went to his Tarapore Towers flat to question him on Sunday evening too raised much doubt. “We were shocked to see Ahuja sitting comfortably with his friends and enjoying a TV show. He was very calm and comfortable until he saw police and the maid’s relative at his door. He probably, never thought that the matter would go to the police. An ordinary man will be terrified right after the incident and will be ill at ease constantly thinking what if the victim goes and tells someone. But Ahuja seemed pretty comfortable watching TV with no fear whatsoever. However once he realised why the police had come to his house he started trembling,” a news daily quoted a office as saying.What’s more is that after the medical reports of the housemaid confirmed rape, the police called Ahuja’s wife Anupam to the Oshiwara police station for questioning. Though the details of Anupam’s interrogation have not been divulged, the police say that allegation against Ahuja had been strengthened with the medical report of the girl which noted forceful sexual intercourse and also made a mention of injuries on her body apart from her private parts. Based on these facts the police now intend to seek Ahuja’s further custody on June 18 as he may try and influence witnesses whose statements are still being recorded. Till now the officials have recorded four statements, apart from the victim`s. DCP (Zone IX) Niket Kaushik said, "We have recorded the statement of the victim`s aunt (Rekha), who first met her after the incident. The other maid in the house (Sangeeta), Ahuja`s cook (Mohan), and the watchman of the building have also given their statements. All statements fit with the circumstances of the case".
