London: Model and former ‘Big Brother’ star Imogen Thomas has spoken out for the first time about how she was betrayed by a married Premier League footballer after their seven-month fling.
Imogen, 28, said the pair had made a pact to keep their relationship secret and were “deeply in love”.
But she was left feeling “like a criminal” after the unnamed footballer instructed his lawyers to take legal action in a bid to hide his cheating.
The distraught former Miss Wales said she phoned the player last week after learning details of their affair had leaked out.
Tearful Imogen told how she begged him to use his influence to suppress the story – in the hope they could keep their relationship alive.
He told her: “I’ll look after you.” But she says they were the last words the footballer said to her.
Instead the player, a married father, took action to protect his wholesome image.
Within hours Imogen was served a draconian High Court gagging order, which threatened her with jail. Then a judge ruled her name could be made public – while her mega-rich lover’s identity must remain protected.
“When I heard he was going to abandon me and let my name come out, that was when I felt really hurt and betrayed,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.
“I believed him when he said he would protect me but he’s only looked out for himself. My world has fallen apart.
“But he hasn’t lost anything. He can go back to his big house, his wife and kids and still be worshipped when he plays football,” she added.
