London: ABC network has planned a remake of the classic British sitcom ‘Only Fools and Horses’ and is making a pilot with the team behind the US comedy ‘Scrubs’. The network announced that the new version will keep the original BBC name. There have already been remakes of the show in the Netherlands, Portugal and Slovenia, but none of them retained the original title.
The producers promise that the American remake will “chronicle the misadventures of two streetwise brothers and their aging grandfather as they concoct outrageous, morally questionable get rich quick schemes in their quest to become millionaires,” a leading daily has reported. Steve Carell, who played the main character in the US version of ‘The Office’, has previously said playing Del Boy, the show’s lead character, would be his “dream role”. “The British do sitcoms better than anybody else in the world. I think with the right scriptwriters and cast we could do ‘Only Fools and Horses’ justice. If anybody wants to help me do a remake I’d love it,” he said. Carell said he would like ‘Wedding Crashers’ star Vince Vaughn as Boycie, Ben Stiller as Grandad and Paul Rudd from ‘Anchorman’ as Rodney. ANI
