Westlife land Best Pop Act honour

Westlife has landed Best Pop Act honour at Meteor Ireland Music Awards.

London: Irish pop band Westlife has landed the Best Pop Act honour at the annual Meteor Ireland Music Awards for a record tenth time.
The boy band, who have enjoyed a career spanning more than a decade, were honoured at Dublin’s RDS venue on February 19. Other winners included, Snow Patrol for the Best Band, The Script for the Best Irish Live Performance of the Year for their set at the Oxygen festival in the city last year. U2’s No Line on the Horizon was beaten to the Best Album award by The Coronas’ record Tony Was An Ex-Con, leaving the group stunned to be handed the top honour. “I know people say this all the time, but we really, really didn’t expect this. We just assumed like everyone else that U2 would win. We hadn’t a clue,” a news daily quoted lead singer Danny O’Reilly as saying. Florence and the Machine took home the Best International Band award, and Brian Kennedy received this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. ANI
