US jobless rate falls to 8.1%; April hiring slows down
New Delhi: US unemployment rate still fell to 8.1% while hiring for the second straight month in April slowed down amidst mixed messages about the country’s economic strength, a news agency reported on Friday.
As per the Labor Department report, employers added 115,000 workers to their payrolls last month.
The unemployment rate ticked a tenth of a point lower to a three-year low, as people left the work force, said the agency. The jobless rate is derived from a separate survey of households, which showed a drop in the number of jobs in April.
