US reports $232 billion budget deficit
Washington: The US Treasury Department announced Monday that the federal government registered a USD 231.7-billion budget deficit in February.
This marked the biggest monthly budget imbalance in history, and was USD 9.2 billion higher than the previous record of USD 222.5 billion registered in February 2011.
The US federal government raked in USD 103.4 billion last month, and registered outlays of USD 335.1 billion, Xinhua reported.
In the first five months of the 2012 fiscal year starting Oct 1 2011, the total budget deficit of the US federal government surpassed USD 580.8 billion, on pace to exceed USD 1 trillion for the fourth consecutive fiscal year.
