Melbourne: Former Australian coach John Buchanan has stated that he tried to make travelling an enlightening experience for cricket players and took them to red-light areas in Calcutta, and albatross rookeries in New Zealand.
According to a Newspaper, Buchanan pointed out that he always coached the whole person and not just the cricketer, further adding that it was about trying to broaden people`s horizons, to take them places they had not been before and provide them with experiences outside the dressing room. Buchanan further added that it is a bit of a balance to have the players ready to perform on the field, do their sponsors and media duties, do things outside the comfort zone and also spend time without following a schedule, which is also very important.
