Mumbai: Maharashtrian girl Isha Koppikar feels that she could have done justice to ‘Chikni Chameli’, a chartbuster that is inspired by a very popular Marathi number ‘Kombdi Pallali’.
‘Chikni Chameli’ sees Bollywood’s latest hot item Katrina Kaif grooving to the song in a manner which is quite alien to Lavni, which is considered Maharashtra’s folk dance.
Talking to a daily, a source said, “Isha has been telling people that had she been given Chikni Chameli song, she would have danced better than Katrina. She even confessed that the Kombdi Pallali performance was an ode to Maharashtra from their own Marathi mulgi and she prefers Kombdi Pallali to Chikni Chameli.”
Isha even admitted that the song sounds best in Marathi. She said, “‘Kombdi Pallali’ is a classic Marathi number. It’s got this rustic raw appeal. I feel that the song is best when it`s in Marathi. When I heard ‘Chikni Chameli’, I felt that it doesn`t even come close to ‘Kombdi Pallali’ in terms of the fun element.”
However, the lady has appreciated Katrina’s efforts to pull off the item song. “Katrina is a great performer and she has done her best in ‘Chikni Chameli’ too. But my performance in ‘Chikni Chameli’ would have been a little different. Had I performed the song, I would have done it a tad differently keeping in mind my Maharashtrian roots.”
