Washington: Microsoft founder Bill Gates has described the new Windows 8 operating system, which would be released next month as ‘a very exciting new product’.

During an interview, Gates said the new operating system is ‘a very big deal’ for the world's largest software maker.

He also said he is already using Windows 8, and that he is ‘very pleased with it’, CBS News reports.

“Hardware partners are doing great things to take advantage of the features. It'll be a big deal,” the report quoted Gates, as saying.

Windows 8 will replace Windows 7 on practically all personal computers sold to consumers.

According to the report, the new system features major changes in the way consumers interact with their machines, and versions of it will also run on tablet computers and smartphones.
