Sydney: BMW owners Down Under will soon have wireless internet access in their cars, thanks to the German automaker’s new plan to introduce the facility by the end of this year.

Drivers and passengers will be able to access the web and email accounts via an internet-capable mobile phone, with the car’s iDrive display screen acting as the computer monitor, and the iDrive joystick operating as a mouse.
"For many of us, the internet is an integral part of our daily lives which is why the ultimate driving machine must fully support, and be compatible with, our information and communication needs," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted BMW Australia managing director Stavros Yallouridis, as saying. To avoid any driver distraction, BMW`s in-car internet system will only work when the car is in "Park".

The system will cost 154dollars for vehicles under the luxury car tax threshold (57,466dollars), and 200dollars for new BMWs over that price.
