New Delhi: To check call drop problem, sectoral regulator TRAI on Monday started testing of mobile networks in Delhi and Mumbai to see if operators have taken measures to improve quality of services.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has already floated a consultation paper on the call drop issue proposing to compensate consumers for dropped calls. The regulator had also held discussions with top bosses of telecom companies regarding the issue.

After meeting CEOs of telcos on September 9, the regulator had given 15 days time to telecom operators for taking steps to address the menace.

The regulator will conduct an open house discussion on the matter on October 1. The recommendations on call drops are expected to come by mid-October.

Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had also warned that the option of imposing penalties on erring operators could be explored if the companies fail to do the needful to improve the situation.
