I wanted to crush Gary, says Robbie Williams

Williams spoke about his bitter rivalry with Gary , which led to their split.

London: Singer Robbie Williams, who reunited with `Take That` band members recently, has spoken about his bitter rivalry with Gary Barlow, which led to their split 15-years ago.

Williams said that he wanted to "crush" Gary but now he is "deeply apologetic" for the feud that tore the popular band apart, a news daily reported. In scenes for the new documentary `Take That: Look Back, Don’t Stare`, Williams admits he almost ruined the group`s big reunion of all five band members earlier this year because he did not feel mentally strong enough to cope with global fame again. But Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange talked him into changing his mind. "I wanted to crush him (Gary). And I didn`t let go. Even when he was down, I didn`t let go and for that I`m deeply apologetic. But I needed him to listen to my truth, to validate it for me, and when he did it was a magnificent moment," Williams said. Speaking about Robbie quitting again, Jason, 40, says in the TV film: "When Robbie was on board with us it reignited my excitement. So when he pulled out again it was like the rug was pulled out from under my feet." Gary said, "When I heard that Rob didn`t want to do it any more, I was like What are we going to do?` We had big songs already written and it was like what a waste." Williams, 36, said rejoining was a scary prospect and decided to record with the band for the first time since 1995 because he has nothing else to do. PTI
