The firm said that in total, Facebook members have befriended each other 140.3 billion times, posted 1.13 trillion ‘likes’ and 219 billion photos.
Zuckerberg said his aim was to connect everyone in the world via Facebook.
“Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life,” the Telegraph quoted Zuckerberg, as saying.
“I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too,” he added.
According to the paper, Facebook is the first social network to reach the one billion milestone.
Micro blogging platform Twitter its nearest competitor, which has over 500 million users.
