Monica Botkier sues Sears over Kardashian Kollection imitation handbag

New York: Monica Botkier has sued Sears and claimed that a handbag released as part of the Kardashian Kollection is an imitation of her Clyde satchel.
The handbag designer is taking action against the American departmental store for releasing a leopard print faux leather purse with slanted pockets and draw string sides, which irrefutably resembles her own Trigger Clyde satchel. According to Women’s Wear Daily, Botkier has filed a cease and desist letter against the giant retailer, after which the bag was pulled from its website. “Ironically we just discovered below how our Botkier ‘Clyde’ was simply copied by Kardashian Kollection for Sears,” New York Daily News quoted her as writing in her brand’s blog. “They say imitation is the highest form of flattery but we don’t think so,” she stated. The imitation claim came right after the designer signed “You Can’t Fake Fashion” campaign with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and eBay. Botkier recognized that it might be possible the high profile sisters were unaware of the alleged rip-off, whatever the case may be it was an infringement on her brand. “In a case like this, it’s upsetting because it’s a trademarked shape for us, and people recognize it by sight,” she said. “It’s a lot more complicated because it’s hard for independent designers to do anything against mass retailers or megabrands,” she added.
