Granada: Dramatist and poet Federico Garcia Lorca was as appealing in real life as his works were. Believed to be murdered by supporters of General Franco during the early weeks of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, the revolutionary’s grave is to be opened at the request of another victim`s family. Though the exact location of Lorca’s grave is uncertain, historians believe that he was then buried with at least three other men beside a winding mountain road in Granada in southern Spain. Lorca`s relatives, though initially opposed to the idea of exhumation, have agreed to support the search by providing DNA samples for examination and confirmation. Archaeologists will dig by hand, focusing on four areas identified as potential graves by ground radar equipment. The project is being undertaken under strict secrecy, with those involved stripped of camera phones. The whole area has been cordoned off, giving it an eerie look of a crime scene. The exhumation will lead to the completion of the final chapter of biography on the dead poet. Lorca died aged 38, murdered for his left-wing views, Republican sympathies and homosexuality - all of which made him a target for followers of Franco at the start of the civil war.
