Chennai: Finnish handset maker Nokia has bagged the `Golden Peacock Environment Management` award for the year 2010.Nokia Senior Global Campaign Manager Kirsty Britz received the award, instituted by the World Environment Foundation on behalf of Nokia India at a function in London recently, Nokia India said in a statement here.



Nokia has bagged the title after competing with more than 380 organisations and selection was on key factors, including environmental governance, legal compliance, training and awareness on environment protection, monitoring of environmental performance and clean technologies, it said.



"Environment management is one of our organizational cornerstones and therefore is an important part of all our business activities. Getting an award of such high prestige in our first application effort itself has reinforced our belief that we have chosen the right path and will continue to take our GREEN journey to new levels of success.", Nokia Chennai Factory Director Prakash Katama said.



The Golden Peacock Environment Management Award is awarded annually to encourage and recognise effective implementation of environment management system and continual improvement.



Nokia manufactures over eight lakh handsets a day at its Sriperumbudur facility and has about 8000 employees.
