GSM players add 23.3 lakh rural subscribers in June

Bharti Airtel added the maximum of 12.6 lakh users during the month to take its subscriber base to 8.59 crore, followed by Idea with 8.8 lakh additions to increase its base to 6.87 crore.

New Delhi: GSM telecom operators added 23.3 lakh new subscribers in June this year to take the user base to 27.16 crore at the end of the month, industry body COAI said on Tuesday.

Bharti Airtel added the maximum of 12.6 lakh users during the month to take its subscriber base to 8.59 crore, followed by Idea with 8.8 lakh additions to increase its base to 6.87 crore.

Aircel and Uninor added 3 lakh and 1.7 lakh new subscribers to take their base to 2.27 crore and 1.02 crore, respectively.

Vodafone, however, lost 2.8 lakh subscribers during the month, which led its user base to shrink to 8.40 crore.

UP East circle has the maximum rural subscribers at 2.91 crore.

The rural teledensity stood at 41.37 percent as on April 2013.
