Lindsay Lohan a `fidgety mess` hours before jail

Lindsay Lohan was a "fidgety mess," a magazine said just hours before she was due to be locked up Tuesday for 90 days.

Los Angeles: Troubled Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan was a "fidgety mess," a magazine said just hours before she was due to be locked up Tuesday for 90 days for parole violations in her 2007 drunk driving conviction. Lohan, 24, broke down in tears July 6 when the judge ordered her placed behind bars, but it is unlikely she will serve out her full sentence in a Los Angeles detention facility due to her nonviolent crime and similar preceding cases of Hollywood stars who served a mere fraction of their time.
The Disney star broke the terms of her parole for missing seven classes of a 90-day, in-patient substance abuse program judge Marsha Revel had ordered her to attend. A day ahead of her date with a Los Angeles jailer, Lohan was distraught, a source close to her told People magazine. "She is a nervous, fidgety mess, and her legal team, family and friends are very concerned about her fragile state," the source said. Lohan for the past few days has been staying at the Pickford Lofts rehabilitation center, the magazine said. "It`s been a rough weekend," said the quoted source. "She has not been able to sleep and has barely been eating. All weekend, Lindsay kept crying, chain-smoking and chewing her nails." Lohan`s lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley has quit, and on Friday, O.J. Simpson`s ex-lawyer Robert Shapiro took up the challenge after specialising in drug abuse cases -- his son died of a drug overdose in 2005. But Shapiro`s dedication comes with conditions. He told the Los Angeles Times that he agreed to represent Lohan only if she complied both with her 90-day prison sentence and with the terms of her probation. Lohan was arrested for driving under the influence three years ago. After a stay in rehab, she was caught two months later for drunk driving and cocaine possession. She served a mere 84 minutes in jail. In May 2007, the actress was in a Mercedes-Benz that crashed into a hedge on Sunset Boulevard near the Beverly Hills Hotel, and two months later she was arrested in Santa Monica on suspicion of drunken driving. Tabloids have covered Lohan`s hard-partying lifestyle, her busy social life dating men and women, her run-ins with the law, and now her latest move: to a correctional facility. Once a promising young A-list actress whose career since has spun off course, Lohan has been known to audiences for years. After working as a child model, the freckle-faced redhead earned big breaks to become a Disney star in movies like "Freaky Friday" and the remake of the kids` classic "Parent Trap." Lohan wowed fellow actors and many critics, swiftly acting her way up the Hollywood food chain to A-list work with the likes of Oscar-winners Meryl Streep in "Prairie Home Companion" and Jane Fonda in "Georgia Rule." Her latest movie, the action thriller "Machete" featuring Robert De Niro and Danny Trejo, is scheduled for release in September. Lohan is currently working on a film about porn star Linda Lovelace.
